Travis and Tunga met while working together in the Sukhbaatar Provincial Health Department in the eastern steppe of Mongolia in the fall of 2008. Travis had just arrived to start his two-year assignment with the Peace Corps as Tunga began working in the Health Department following her graduation from college that summer. With offices close to one another and daily English classes bringing them together, Tunga and Travis got to know each other while Travis tried to impress her with his limited Mongolian and Tunga went from speaking no English to becoming one of the best students in the hospital. They learned together over the fall and got to know each others' families and cultures during the winter holiday season in Mongolia. In the spring, during Valentine's Day dinner, Travis gave Tunga a letter asking if she would be his girlfriend. Two hours, a second letter from Tunga, and a English-Mongolian dictionary later, she said yes. When Travis traveled back to America in the summer to see his sister's wedding, his family met a miniature photo-version of Tunga and listened to his long stories and endless suggestions of where Little Tunga should go next. A year later, Travis and Tunga both were able to travel back to America over the winters holidays and everyone met the real Tunga, now able to tell stories of their own. After returning to Mongolia and enjoying two years of amazing adventures and wonderful memories together, Travis asked Tunga to be his wife during Tsagaan Sar - the most revered holiday in Mongolia - and she said yes. Their wedding celebrations will occur both in Mongolia and America, during the summers of 2011 and 2012, and they would love for you to be part of their continuing story together. Please be sure to sign our guestbook, we look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon! Thank you! |
