The Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is one of my favorite people. He is the spiritual leader of Tibet and the Tibetan Government-in-Exile. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his ongoing peaceful and nonviolent struggle for the liberation of Tibet and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007.

I have given a lot of time to reading the words of The Dalai Lama over the years and then sharing those lessons and stories with friends and family. I have also collected many of my favorite Quotes from The Dalai Lama to share with others. Originally this was just a document that I kept privately, but it has since turned into a very popular Facebook application and a recently released iPhone application.

I admire the Dalai Lama greatly, as I also admire Gandhi, Jesus and Martin Luther King Jr., and appreciate the principles for which he stands: nonviolence, compassion, justice and world peace. He not only believes in what he says but is a living example of how far we should all take our principles.

Dalai Quotes is an iPhone application created through a collaboration with James at SoftwareX featuring hundreds of quotes from the Dalai Lama. It is available for free, though if you really like it we'd encourage you to donate to the Dalai Lama's Foundation for Universal Responsibility in association with the Tibet Fund.

The Quotes from the Dalai Lama Facebook application currently has over 7,000 users. It was designed by my friend from Campbell University, Pawan Kumar, and displays new quotes every time your Facebook profile loads. We are surprised, but very pleased, by its continued popularity.

You may find that you are surprised yourself by just how well these quotes can provide you with valuable wisdom for right where you are at the time that you read them. I hope you enjoy them. I love how the Dalai Lama puts it, "If anything I've said seems useful to you, I'm glad," he says, "If not, don't worry. Just forget about it."
